The Knowledge Framework — Methods and Tools

The third lens of the framework, methods and tools, asks how a field actually builds and checks its knowledge. If scope is about territory and perspectives about viewpoint, methods and tools are about procedure: the practices, instruments, and forms of reasoning a community uses to move from raw material to justified claim.

What counts as a method or tool

Methods and tools include concrete instruments (telescopes, surveys, carbon dating), formal procedures (controlled experiments, peer review, source triangulation), and forms of reasoning that cut across fields.
