Having examined each theme and area of knowledge, this final lesson steps back to see the whole. TOK is not a list of separate topics but a set of tools for comparing how knowledge works across domains, and that comparative skill is exactly what both the essay and the exhibition reward.

Comparing areas of knowledge

The framework, scope, perspectives, methods and tools, ethics, lets us compare AOKs systematically. The natural sciences and mathematics offer high reliability and (in math) conditional certainty, at the cost of a narrow scope excluding value and meaning. History and the human sciences tackle the richly human but must accept interpretation, perspective, and probabilistic rather than exact knowledge.
