Education and School Life

Education is one of the richest sub-themes inside Social Organization, and it gives you a natural vocabulary for talking about your own daily life. In Spanish, the general word for education is la educación, while the school building itself is el colegio (primary/secondary school), la escuela (school, often primary), el instituto (secondary school in Spain), and la universidad (university). A student is el alumno / la alumna or el / la estudiante, and the person teaching is el profesor / la profesora (or el maestro / la maestra for younger grades). The subjects you study are las asignaturas or las materias, for example las matemáticas (math), la historia (history), la química (chemistry), and los idiomas (languages). When you take an exam you hacer un examen (take an exam) and hope to apro
