The three contexts of the course—personal, local, and global—are more than a checklist. They form a deliberate structure for widening your musical horizons and for grounding abstract study in real engagement. This lesson explores each context and how to work across all three with integrity.

The personal context

The personal context begins with the music you already know and do: the styles you listen to, the instruments you play, the traditions you were raised in, and the tastes that shape your identity as a musician. Starting here has real value. You bring existing knowledge and genuine motivation, and you can make insightful observations about music you understand from the inside.
